Conveyor System Control Panels
We designed and installed a conveyor system control panel to manage product flow and safety. Featuring 36 VSDs and PLC modules, it interfaced seamlessly with standalone machines via ProfiNet, ensuring efficient operations and real-time fault diagnosis.
The Challenge
Our client needed a conveyor system control panel designed to manage and track products as they moved through the system. The system required the capability to allow parts to progress only when space was available, ensuring smooth and safe operations. Additionally, the control system had to interface seamlessly with various standalone process machines, handling all safety protocols and communicating part status and production jobs effectively. This required an advanced control solution that would manage both the operational flow and safety aspects of the system.
Our Approach
To meet these needs, we designed, built, and installed three control panels. Each panel housed 36 variable speed drives (VSDs), PLC input/output modules, and integrated safety mechanisms. These control panels were meticulously wired to the machinery, with cable containment systems installed to manage connections, and we provided and installed pushbutton control stations and safety devices to ensure operational safety.
The panels were interconnected using a ProfiNet communication network, which allowed for seamless data exchange between the various standalone machines and the control system. This interface enabled real-time sharing of machine status and safety conditions across the entire system, ensuring consistent and efficient communication between the production units and the control panels.
The Outcome
The final result was a fully automated production system, offering a high level of operational efficiency and safety. The systems human-machine interfaces (HMIs) provided operators with a complete overview of equipment status, allowing them to monitor performance in real-time. In addition, the system’s diagnostic capabilities quickly identified any faults and pinpointed their location, minimising downtime and enhancing the overall productivity of the system. This solution delivered a robust and reliable automated control system that significantly improved operational flow and safety for our client.
